This is some of the many questions the ferry hostess get from tourist traveling
the Coastal Route.

Q: How far is between the ferries and how much time do I need ?
A: On page 2 in the Travel guide all distances are listed on a map. During high season we
recommend to put in some extra time due to heavy traffic
Q: Where is the next gas station ?
A: On the northern parts of the Coastal Route there is some distance between the gas
stations. The gas stations are often a part of a store and are open only during daytime.
Q: When does the ferry to Lofoten departure ?
A: This ferry runs between Bod� and Moskenes and for schedules you should contact the
ferry company; Ofoten og Vesteraalens Dampskipsselskap AS at +47 76 15 14 22
Q: Are there any bankmachines along the road ?
A: Yes, there are many bankmachines (cashmachines) along the road, but not as many on the
northern part as on the southern part.
Q: What is the capacity on each ferry ?
A: This varies a lot, but in the Travel guide you will find the capacity for each ferry
along the Coastal Route. Most ferries take 30-50 cars.
Q: Can I bring my dog inside the cabins ?
A: Yes and no. You will have to ask the owner.
Q: Where can I see the midnight sun ?
A: From various places along the coast. Some of the most popular places are Grensen
between Gildesk�l and Mel�y county. Another point where you can see the midnight sun is
at �mnes in Mel�y county.
Q: Where did Petter Dass live ?
A: Petter Dass was a famous poet and pastor who lived on the Helgelands coast 300 years
ago.
He was a pastor at Alstahaug and Nesna. Petter Dass was born on the island Her�y where
his farm still exists.
Q: How long is the Coastal Route Rv 17 ?
A: Aprox. 650 kilometers from Asphaugen near Steinkjer to Tverrlandet near Bod�.
Q: How many ferries are there along the Coastal Route ?
A: North and southbound there are 7 ferries. If you choose not to travel the rv769 there
are only 6 ferries.
Q: Where can I stay overnight ?
A: In the Travel Guide you will find a wide variety places who offers accommodation.
Cabins, fisherman's cabins, hotels, guesthouses and more. Prices from NOK 250 and up.
Q: Where can I go fishing ?
A: It is a good idea to bring your fishingpole along. Even if your not planning on
spending too much time fishing, it can be nice to spend a little time fishing. You can
also rent boats with or without motors. You can even go on fishing trips in traditional
fishingboats with skippers.
Both at Lovund, S�mna and Vega this is a popular activity for tourists.
Q: Where can I see the mountain Torghatten ?
A: You can see Torghatten from the sea side or from the Rv 17 at Skillebotn. Torghatten is
a mountain with a huge whole made by the ice thousands of years ago.
Q: Where can I go fishing for salmon ?
A: Namsen is the queen of rivers and famous for big salmon. There are also other and
smaller rivers where you can get salmon.
Q: How many days should I spend driving the Coastal Route ?
A: Most tourists spend 2-3 days, but most of them wish they had more time. It is possible
to drive in one day if you start out in Steinkjer at 0700. You will be in Bod� at 2130
